"I marveled at what I saw, then I walked outside just to be alone for a moment,
and to my astonishment, there in the sky above the stable was a very bright and
eerie light. It was like the light of a star, but it was much brighter and
seemed ever so close-. I even thought I felt the warmth of its glow, and, that
if I reached for it, I could all but touch in it. Yet it was clearly beyond my reach.
Then off in the distance, I heard music, the music of a choir singing joyous
songs. Then I heard a voice; it sounded somewhat like the rumbling of thunder,
it was so majestic. I couldn’t understand all that the voice said, but I heard
enough to make out that a king and Savior had been born in the city of David.
I thought to myself, a king born in Bethlehem? Surely I hadn’t heard right;
it was difficult to imagine that a king could be born in Bethlehem, especially
with the city of kings, Jerusalem, so nearby.
"I was stunned by it all; I was also very frightened by these most unusual
happenings. Never in my life had I seen such ghostly goings on, I wondered what
it all meant. I especially wondered if the babe in the manger might be that
‘newborn king.’ Then I thought, surely not. No prince would be born in such
humble and ignoble surroundings, and besides, I didn’t even know if the baby
was a boy or a girl.
